March 2019: Judge Newman and his career law clerk, Mike Rhinehart, met with students from National Trail High School in New Paris, Ohio. ATF agents also explained their law-enforcement role to the students and did a presentation. First Assistant United States Attorney Vipal Patel also discussed the history and current role of the United States Attorney’s Office.
On January 10, 2018, Federal Bar Association National President Kip Bollin; United States Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Ohio and past Federal Bar Association President Hon. Michael J. Newman; Randy Sentman, a Social Studies teacher at Tippecanoe High School in Tipp City, Ohio; and United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio career law clerk Michael Rhinehart appeared on the WVXU-FM public radio show "Cincinnati Edition" to promote the Federal Bar Association's national civics outreach program. While on the program they discussed civics education and student field trips to a federal courthouse.

Tyner Academy Mock Trial Team visited the Joel W. Solomon Federal Building and Courthouse on May 7, 2018. This was the first year Tyner Academy had participated in the mock trial competition in several years. The group met with Judge Collier prior to observing three criminal hearings before Judge Collier. Following the hearings, the students had an opportunity to meet participants from the hearings they had observed which included Assistant United States Attorney Chris Poole, United States Probation Officer Crystal Johnson, Defense Attorney Leslie Cory, and Defense Attorney Marty Levitt. The participants discussed with the students the cases that they observed in court, and Judge Collier and the participants gave the students an opportunity to ask questions.

October 9, 2024 – Judge Michael Newman and Magistrate Judge Peter Silvain from the U.S. District Court in Dayton, Ohio along with Montgomery County, Ohio Juvenile Administrative Judge Helen Wallace meet students from Belpre High School.
On March 10, 2025, Judge Angelina Jackson from the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court, and Dayton Bar Association president, Judge Michael Newman, from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, together met with 90+ students at Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio. After hearing from Judge Jackson and Judge Newman about their work in the state and federal courts, respectively, the students asked a wide-ranging series of questions concerning, among other topics, civil and criminal cases, recusal, life as a judge, and work-life balance. It was a great event. Many of the students plan to come to the Common Pleas and Federal Court this summer to job shadow both Judge Jackson and Judge Newman.
